Rig Mechanic
Summary
The objective of this position is to ensure that all mechanical systems remain operative and comply with safety, regulatory body and test standards. Designated mechanical specialist who is responsible for various duties including but not limited to the operational integrity, maintenance (preventive maintenance), installation and removal of mechanical systems! components repair and documentation of the drilling unit's system, pipe handling system, rotary components, pumps, mud conditioning equipment, cranes, and auxiliary equipment such as compressors, pumps and water systems, piping, fittings, valves and emergency preparedness equipment.
Description
This position reports directly to the Toolpusher.
The mechanic is to protect, in order of priority, the Health and Safety of himself, the personnel working with or assisting him, and the security and integrity of the drilling unit and associated equipment.
Essential Functions
All Rig Types
1) Maintain the operational integrity of maintenance (preventive Maintenance), installation and removal of mechanical systems. Components repair and documentation of the drilling systems including but not limited to the following:
a) Draw works:
i) Brakes
ii) Transmissions and clutches
iii) Catheads
iv) Lubrication systems
b) Crown and traveling systems
c) Drilling hook
d) Top Drive system
e) Wire line units
f) Pipe handling units:
i) Manual pipe tongs
ii) Power tongs
iii) Iron roughneck
iv) Automatic piperaker
v) Drillpipe/casing elevators
vi) Slips and auto slips
g) Rotary table and bushings
h) Rotary components on the drilling system
i) BOP stack components
i) Ram type (when applicable)
ii) Annular type (when applicable)
iii) Diverter system (when applicable)
j) Mud (slush) pumps
k) Mud conditioning equipment
i) Shale shaker(when applicable)
ii) Desander/desilter (when applicable)
iii) Mud centrifuge (when applicable)
iv) Mud/gas separator (when applicable)
v) Degasser (when applicable)
2) Maintain the operational integrity, maintenance (preventive maintenance), installation and removal of mechanical systems/components, repair and documentation of all auxiliary and support equipment including but not limited to the following:
a) Air compressors
b) Pumps and water systems
c) Piping, fittings and valves
d) Waste disposal unit
e) Fire prevention equipment and emergency preparedness
f) Fork trucks
g) Third party equipment maintenance schedules (where applicable).
3) Order parts in accordance with Company purchasing procedures which will be necessary for maintenance and repair of equipment.
4) Complete required maintenance reports.
5) Make use of parts books as necessary to identify necessary parts and make arrangements for ordering.
Safety:
a) participate in safety drills and inspections
b) attend Toll Box Talk (TBT) meetings
c) assist in risk assessment
d) participate in Hazard Observation System (HASBO)
6) Preventative Maintenance: To create, maintain and support a Preventative Maintenance (PM) system for all Company owned drilling equipment.
